Choosing the Right Bike for You

Many differing options are available to you as you look to purchase a bicycle. Choosing their next bicycle is difficult, even for professional riders. The truth is that there are a lot of things to think about when buying a bicycle. Imagine the future: how safe, comfy and stylish do you need the bike to be. How far will you ride and where will you be riding? All the existing options make it hard to make a choice; this choice is made more difficult by all the emerging technologies. Opting for the correct bike for you is as easy as using these simple criteria.

The basic key to choosing a bicycle is to buy a bicycle that you can sit on and rest your feet flat on the floor so that you can stop yourself. There are those who say that this isn't the best way, though. They say that it is better to give yourself a few inches between your feet and the ground to create a more comfortable cycling experience. If your feet are on the ground and your knees are bent when you sit on the seat of the bike, it generally means that the seat is sitting too low for you and too close to the crossbar. Also, if you find that your knees are bent when sitting on the bike, your knees are going to come up too high when you are pedaling your bike.

For road bikes take away 9 inches from the total of your inseam. This is to account for the size of tires you will use on a road bike. These tires will be thinner and designed for efficiency on concrete roads or pavements. You will want to subtract 12" for a mountain bike. Again this is to account for the size of tires. They are thicker and meant for a rockier terrain. Mountain bikes can travel on city pavement but that is not what they are designed to do.

If you are buying a cycling bicycle for your children, you have an entirely different set of criteria to think about. You will want to choose a bicycle that is sturdy with wide tires and easy to use brakes (most children’s brakes operate by moving the pedals backwards). You will definitely have to consider how the bike looks when shopping for a child and you will want to find a well priced bike because children grow so fast. There are a lot of criteria to use when deciding which cycling bicycle is right for you. Are you going to be riding your bicycle every day or riding it only when you feel the urge to? What seat height gives you page the most comfortable ride? Are you a person who would rather your feet be flat on the ground when you are sitting or would you rather have a little room between your feet and the ground? Think about all this when buying your bike, and you will make the right choice.
